WELCOME TO THE RADNOR ARMS

COMMUNITY-OWNED FREE HOUSE IN NEW RADNOR

The Radnor Arms, community-owned free house.

A brief history of our community-owned pub:

In 2016, the Radnor Arms in New Radnor, Powys closed its doors. Despite being a viable business and an important part of village life, the pub ceased trading and gradually fell into disrepair.

In 2024, the local community came together to change that. Through a successful community share offer, funds were raised to purchase the pub from an interim owner, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Since then, work has been underway to restore the Radnor Arms to its former place at the heart of New Radnor.

Today, the Radnor Arms is proud to be a community-owned village pub in New Radnor, Mid Wales, run by local people, for local people.

Whether you’re from the village, visiting Powys, or exploring the Welsh borders, you’ll find a warm welcome, a friendly atmosphere, and a proper local pub experience. It’s a place to meet, relax, and enjoy a drink in one of Mid Wales’ most welcoming community pubs.

Saturday 18th April marks one year of continuous trading, and we couldn't be happier to see the pub thriving and integrating itself firmly back into the local community of New Radnor.

A traditional village pub in Mid Wales

The Radnor Arms is proud to be part of New Radnor’s heritage. As a community-owned pub, we exist to serve the people around us, preserving a vital local hub where everyone is welcome.

  • A cosy, traditional pub setting

  • A place for locals and visitors alike

  • Dog-friendly and walker-friendly

  • A hub for community life in Powys

Located near Presteigne, Kington, and the Welsh border, we’re perfectly placed for those exploring the countryside or looking for a genuine rural pub experience serving industry leading beverages and bar snacks.

Community-owned, community-led

The Radnor Arms is more than just a pub, it’s a community effort. Saved and supported by local people, the pub plays an important role in village life. Every visit helps sustain a shared space where people can gather, connect, and keep local traditions alive.

We’re proud to be part of the growing movement of community-owned pubs across the UK, helping rural communities thrive.

How we started opening to the village post shareholder purchase

Towards the end of 2024 the Radnor Arms Community Benefits Society (CBS) opened its doors for monthly 'Pop INN's'.

These crucial events allowed the close knit communities of New Radnor and the  surrounding Welsh border areas to come together and celebrate the saving of the last remaining pub in the village.

People also had the chance to witness first hand the restoration work that has taken place so far.

Throughout the continued restoration of the pub, the elected committee planned to open as much as possible until the restoration  of the main bar was complete.
